About the Festival
The Latin American Cultural Festival of Orlando continues a UCF tradition of more than 25 years, namely, the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in recognition of the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and contributions of Hispanics around the world, particularly, in this nation and in Florida. Initially, with the support and guidance of faculty and administrators like Dr. José B. Fernández, and Dr. Elba Grovdahl, funding from the Student Government Association, the UCF Hispanic American Student Association, and the sponsorship of the business community, the Festival was responsible for offering a series of cultural events of a broad nature.
Currently, the Latin American Cultural Festival of Orlando is the responsibility of the Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies program, a unit of the College of Arts and Humanities.
The mission of the UCF Latin American Cultural Festival of Orlando is:
- To celebrate the rich and diverse contributions of the people of Latin America and U.S. Hispanics in all the manifestations of social life in American society
- To promote the more than 500 years of cultural heritage of Hispanics in the Americas
- To educate both Hispanics and non Hispanics in the different aspects of Hispanic culture inside and outside the U.S.
