La Rondalla de Orlando

Sunday, October 18, 2009; 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Location: University High School Auditorium; 11501 Eastwood Drive, Orlando
Cost: Free

A “Rondalla” is a string ensemble composed of instruments played with a plectrum (pick). The Puerto Rican cuatro is the mainstay; it has the largest number of players, producing beautiful sounds that resemble the soothing strains of music. The conga, bongo, and the Puerto Rican güiro spice the group with Latin percussion. Add the sound of the flute and the resulting combination appeals to all musical tastes. The Rondalla is directed by Mr. Ángel Martínez. It is the aim of the Rondalla to promote and preserve the Puerto Rican and Caribbean culture through music. The music produced by the group never fails to evoke pride and a yearning for their homeland among Puerto Ricans and Hispanics in general, and an awesome sense of love and appreciation for our musical heritage by non- Hispanics.
