Liz Lerman
Acclaimed choreographer, performer, writer, and educator

Founder of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Lerman has been commissioned by the Lincoln Center, American Dance Festival, Harvard Law School and the Kennedy Center, to name a few. Her collection of essays titled Hiking the Horizontal: Field Notes from a Choreographer was described by the Washington Post as “the source of an epochal revolution in the scope and purposes of dance art.” She received a MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship in 2002 and a United States Artists Ford Fellowship in 2011. Her newest performance, The Matter of Origins, examines the question of beginnings through dance, media and innovative formats for conversation.
