DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS

The UCF Writing Center
www.uwc.ucf.edu
The University Writing Center (UWC) provides free writing support to all undergraduates and graduates at the University of Central Florida. We routinely work with everyone including freshmen writing research papers, international students writing lab reports, and honors students writing theses. We also help with out-of-class writing such as scholarship and graduate school application essays. Trained Writing Center consultants work one-on-one with students.

The Creative Writing Outreach Project
www.english.ucf.edu/outreach
University of Central Florida's Creative Writing Outreach Project: Autobiography of a Community is a program that uses the literacy arts to improve the learning attitude, ability, and self-sufficiency of vulnerable youth and adults in our community. At the same time, this project provides an opportunity for college students to apply their knowledge in the "real world" and builds a bridge between their academic world and the greater community, potentially leading them to careers and long-term commitment in community service.

The Cypress Dome Society

The Cypress Dome Society (CDS) is a university approved student club dedicated to fostering the writing and literary community at UCF and in the Central Florida area. CDS creates this sense of community through publication of The Cypress Dome literary magazine; and presenting two reading series: Writers in the Sun, which brings nationally acclaimed authors to UCF, and the Student-Faculty Reading Series, which provides a place for students and faculty to share their work. Please visit our website for more information.

This organization provides technical communicators at the University of Central Florida with helpful information about technical writing and upcoming technical writing workshops. FTC members are given the opportunity to attend both FTC and STC meetings as well as become involved in the new mentoring program. Saturday workshops are held by current technical writing students and FTC members who help attendees become more familiar with the industries essential computer applications and technical writing procedures. Finally, this Web site provides information about the Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship Fund as well as information about the local and national STC organization.
