"Cross Creek belongs to the wind and the rain, to the sun and the seasons, to the cosmic secrecy of seed, and beyond all, to time."
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings published Cross Creek in February 1942. It is a collection of reminiscences, anecdotes, and reflections of her life in frontier Cross Creek, Florida, beginning in 1928 until her death in 1953. A believer that there is "an affinity between people and places," she felt that her "life and destinty were tied up with the simple way of life" she found at Cross Creek.
This web page was created by Dr. Anna Lillios, of the University of Central Florida, at the request of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society. The MKR Society plans to distribute information about this web page to high school students throughout the state of Florida. The essays were written by students in Dr. Lillios's fall 2002 Florida Writers course. For further information, contact Dr. Lillios at lillios@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu
